What uTransplant is
- A private matching service that helps transplant patients and living donors find each other — profiles are never publicly browsable.
- An education hub covering costs, programs, and options in plain language.
- An independent RN Navigator service for patients who want hands-on help.
- A logistics resource for travel and lodging near transplant centers.
What uTransplant is not
- Not a transplant center. We don't perform testing, surgery, or medical evaluation of any kind.
- Not a broker. We never charge for, or facilitate payment for, an organ. Doing so is a federal felony under the National Organ Transplant Act (42 U.S.C. §274e), and no fee on this platform is ever contingent on a match or transplant happening.
- Not a replacement for your transplant team. Every compatibility test, medical decision, and consent process happens at an accredited transplant center with its own Independent Living Donor Advocate. A uTransplant RN is not that Independent Living Donor Advocate and does not replace that required role.
- Not a source of payment to donors. Donors are never charged, and are never paid by us beyond helping them access legitimate expense-reimbursement programs like NLDAC.
How matching works
- Profiles are confidential from the moment they're created — nothing is ever posted to a public page.
- We review new signups for compatible matches using self-reported organ type and ABO blood-type compatibility. Location and timing are not match filters today — living donation often involves travel, and that conversation happens after you both opt in. Medical suitability is never assessed by us — that determination always happens at an accredited transplant center.
- Suggested matches show organ and blood type only. Neither party sees the other's story, location, identifying details, or contact information until both sides have separately opted in to connect.
- New donor accounts confirm email, then wait for a person to look at the name, story, state, and phone before they enter a recipient's queue. That is not an identity or background check. Recipients see a few suggested donors at a time.
- Chat cannot carry a phone number, email, or social handle. Name, email, and phone on your profile are shared only when you both use Reveal my identity.
- Revealing your real identity to a match — your name, contact details, anything identifying — is always your choice, on your timeline. You can wait until your transplant center confirms compatibility, reveal sooner, or never; we never require it and never disclose it on your behalf.
- Once a match moves toward formal evaluation, your transplant center independently verifies both parties' real identities to run testing and provide care. That's separate from whether you and your match know each other's names — many centers keep that confidential between donor and recipient unless both sides ask to be introduced.
- Matching is never billed as a success fee — any fee is flat and charged regardless of whether a match, introduction, or transplant ever happens.
Our legal commitments
- NOTA compliance: no valuable consideration is ever exchanged for an organ on this platform, by us or between users.
- No contingent fees: every fee we charge — including for matching and introductions — is flat and time- or service-based, never tied to whether a match, introduction, donation, or transplant occurs.
- Sponsorships: we do not currently sell paid transplant-center or OPO placements. Any future sponsorship would be a disclosed, flat advertising or directory fee after a signed agreement — never a per-referral or per-patient payment. See our partner page.
- Licensed scope: our navigator services are delivered by a licensed RN Navigator operating within a written scope of service — education and coordination, not diagnosis or treatment — and only in states where that license is valid.
Data & privacy
We collect only what's needed to run your profile, your navigator engagement, and our own operations, and we don't sell your health information. Suggested matches show organ and blood type only. Your story, location, and contact details are shared with a prospective match only after both sides separately opt in — never before. Full details are in our Privacy Policy and Consumer Health Data Privacy Policy.
Financial hardship
If membership cost is a barrier to building a recipient profile, contact us — fee waivers are available on a case-by-case basis.
