What Is a Living Donor?

A living donor is a person who may give a kidney, or a portion of liver, after a transplant center clears them. It is not a deceased-donor offer and it is not a purchase.

What it is not

Not a public listing of patients. Not a paycheck for an organ. Not medical clearance from a website.

What to order

If you need a kidney or liver donor, you need matching. If you are considering donating, join free. Evaluation, advocacy, and surgery happen at the center after that.

Know which side you are on. Recipients: matching. Donors: join free. Evaluation details stay at the program — see our short evaluation overview.

Next: Start matching · Join as a donor — free

This is general information, not medical advice. Centers decide whether donation is safe.
